When it comes time to wear rubber bands (elastics), we cannot stress the importance of them enough! Rubber bands are small elastic bands that connect teeth from the top to the bottom in order to make your teeth fit together properly. You typically wear them 12-24 hours a day or as instructed and you are allowed to take them out when you eat or brush your teeth. This takes a lot of discipline and responsibility because you must plan ahead and make sure you bring your elastics with you everywhere and of course remember to put them back in!

It is important to wear rubber bands to help avoid joint issues, to help with grinding or clenching of the teeth, and to keep your treatment on schedule! We stress excellent rubber band wear so patients can get the absolute best result from their treatment in braces. If you are not consistent with wearing rubber bands, your teeth will become sore and take longer to move or not move at all.  At first you will experience some discomfort from them, but just like anything else with braces it takes time getting used to.

So if you are anxiouis to keep your treatment moving on schedule, keep up good brushing habits, stay away from things on the no -no list, and wear your rubber bands! If you ever run out of elastics, call our office at 608-754-4998 so we can mail you some, or stop in during our office hours to pick some up!

A General Dentist is someone you would see for a routine teeth cleaning or filling. They perform dental treatments such as restorative (fillings, crowns, bridges), prosthetic (dentures), endodontics (root canal) therapy, periodontal (gum) therapy, and exodontia (extraction of teeth), as well as performing examinations, radiographs (x-rays) and diagnosis. They are required to complete dental school but does not need additonal schooling beyond graduating from dental school.

Orthodonitsts are specialists in moving teeth and aligning jaws who dedicate their professional lives to creating healthy, beautiful smiles in children and adults. Orthodontists focus their work primarily on orthodontics only and are able to do so because they complete an extra 2 years minimum of schooling beyond dental school. This makes them uniquely qualified to diagnose, prevent, and treat orthodontic problems quickly and comfortably. Orthodontists are trained to do everything that general dentists do, they just don’t practice it everyday in their office. A visit at the orthodontist office may involve getting new wires, changing color ties, or adding brackets.

Did you know:

Around 5 million Americans are in braces right now! Just think of all the beautiful smiles that are being created!

There are approximately 5,410 orthodontists in the U.S that are hard at work to give patients new and improved smiles.

i-Cat X-ray Machine

We have added the new i-Cat machine (left) next to our digital x-ray machine. The assistant will operate it from the outside using the control panel on the wall next to the phone. The flat screen monitor will be used to view the image as it is being taken.

The staff at Pelsue Orthodontics is thrilled to announce that the new i-Cat 3-D imaging x-ray machine is now installed in the office! The machine takes a detailed 3-D image of the skull, allowing Dr.s Pelsue to be able to see impactions, supernumeraries (extra teeth), and even airways! We are excited about this new machine because of all the new things we will be able to see that we are unable to detect in a normal x-ray that we take in our office. This information will improve the doctors’ diagnosis as well as the patients’ treatment and results.
